In this lecture Linda explores the 10 extraordinary and well known gardens in England which are featured in her Thames & Hudson book, The English Garden at Night. Linda will speak briefly about their history and the challenges of working in an environment that touches on such a profound history.
Sissinghurst Revisited
Sissinghurst is an extraordinary garden famous for its literary associations, its history and architecture. However, it is its owners Vita Sackville West and her husband Harold Nicolson who rescued it from despair which have given the garden its notoriety and persona. Join photographer Linda Rutenberg for a visit both during the day and night and discover the spirit, uniqueness and influence of this special place in the heart of Kent, England.
Return from the Garden of Eden
Linda has just returned from the Eden where she was artist in residence for two months. The Eden Project is an extraordinary garden in Cornwall England built in the bottom of an abandoned clay mine pit. Left as a devastated landscape, Tim Smit the director, came up with the crazy idea of building two biomes, one with tropical climate and one with Mediterranean climate to show the world that it is possible to recreate and recover from man’s devastation. This lecture will take you on a visual odyssey of this inspiring place.
*All lectures include a PowerPoint presentation of her photographs, a question period, and the opportunity of purchasing a signed copy of her recent publications.
